Omana Regional Park is the ideal place to enjoy a family day out. There is a safe swimming beach, rock pools to explore, pet animals to feed, a children's playground, large flat grass areas for organised games, a boardwalk and cycling tracks and plenty of picnic and barbecue sites.
From Maraetai the shoreline stretches for several kilometres of splendid unspoilt coastal scenery along the narrow Coast Road until it reaches Umupuia, also known as Duders Beach. Opposite the beach is Umupuia Park, a Maori cemetary and marae – the meeting place of the Ngai Tai people.
1. Whitford has seen many changes since the first European settlers arrived in 1843 but retains its rustic charm. It is a service centre for the surrounding farms and equestrian activities. Whitford is also a focus for an emerging local arts and crafts cottage industry.
